At 19, Karen already had a child of her own when she was asked to take in her 15-year-old sister because of allegations that the girl’s grandfather had sexually molested her. Karen took her sister into her home, and she has persevered despite many hardships. But for this struggling family, very little was left over for luxuries at Christmas. So HALOS matched the family with a generous community sponsor who was able to spread some much-needed holiday cheer.

For abused and neglected children, the holidays can feel uncomfortably like standing on the outside and looking in. While other families come together to celebrate and exchange gifts, the caregivers for these children often struggle just to get by.

But with the help of donors like you, this potentially bleak time can become an opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas. Through our Holiday Giving program, you can help HALOS warm the hearts of needy families in your community. Each year, we provide gifts to thousands of children, and we have many opportunities for you to see first-hand the difference that your gifts make.

Through the Adopt-A-Family program, your or your organization can sponsor a family such as Karen’s. This program ensures that the neediest of families have the very most to celebrate during the holidays. And if sponsoring an entire family is too ambitious, you can also sponsor individual children or host a giving tree for your organization to provide gifts to children in Charleston County.
Through these efforts, the HALOS Holiday Giving program brings Christmas joy to the children and caregivers who need it the most. And your donations are essential to help us remind children that someone out there cares.
