Critical Needs
HALOS recently learned of a woman on a fixed income who
took in two young grandchildren while their mother struggled
with drug addiction. When the children outgrew their cribs,
she needed beds to keep the children out of foster home,
but she could not afford new furniture. HALOS stepped in
to provide a lightly used bunk bed donated by a local family.
With more then 1800 open cases of abuse or neglect in Charleston
County, hundreds of children in our community find themselves
living with grandparents and other relatives. These relatives
supply a crucial safety net for the children, but their new
role as caregivers can be a remarkably difficult challenge.
For the generous caregivers who welcome children into their
homes, a little help can make all the difference in the world.
Your donations can be crucial to keep these children out
of foster car. At HALOS, we believe relatives are often the
best possible alternative to having the children raised by
their parents, so we make every effort to support these caregivers.
To provide support and resources to the
caregivers of abused and neglected children, we have created
the Kinship Care Resource & Support
Program, the Sleep Tight Campaign, and the Car Seat Campaign.
These programs address critical needs, and for caregivers who
have welcomed abused and neglected children into their homes,
they provide much-needed moral and material support. |
